With both parties trying to woo voters, its been raining war of words between the Congress and BSP in Uttar Pradesh.
On the wake of Rahul's campaigning in UP, Chief Minister Mayawati went on say that her party would withdraw support at the Center if it failed to allot more funds for the development of UP. In return Congress alleged that the BSP supremo was scared of its young leader's tour to the State. Mayawati had accused that Gandhi was just a leader who had inherited political power and does not understand politics. --MP
Rahul does a dharna for farmers

It was an eventful day for Congress leader Rahul Gandhi who made a surprise visit to Ghisauli village of UP to get to know the status of the farmers there.
Rahul who also joined the farmers who wanted to address their grievances to the Divisional commissioner against the serious discrepancies and irregularities in NREGS. However the Cong leader who led over 200 farmers from Ghisoli and Badora villages were stopped by the police on the road. The police indicated that not more than 5 people would be allowed to meet the official. It was then Rahul staged a sit in protest on the road and the officials finally had to give up and allowed the farmers to accompany Gandhi for the meeting. --MP
Maya sweeps UP bypolls

It was a clean victory for Maya and party with her Bahujan Samaj Party(BSP) sweeping all of the seats in the Uttar Pradesh bypolls. This includes 2 of the Lok Sabha seats sand 3 of the Assembly constituencies where elections were held. Overwhelmed by the victory Mayawati claimed that her party would make it even big in the next Lok Sabha elections.
She even lashed out at the Congress saying that the results had brought out the Congress party's real love for the Dalits. --MP
UP witness peaceful bypolls

The by-polls for the two Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh were reported by and large peaceful.
The elections held on Saturday were for the 2 LS seats of Khalilabad and Azamgarh. By polls were also held for three Assembly seats in Bilgram, Colonelganj and Moradnagar. However the voter turnouts were moderate. The bypolls will decide the fate of 77 candidates contesting for the five seats --MP

Congress has targetted on Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati again who is trying to built her party base wooing the votes of the Dallits. Congress too who is relying on the dalit vote bank has claimed that Mayawati was getting frustrated over the young Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's increasing influence among the Dalits. "Only Bhim Rao Ambedkar, Nehru family and Mahatma Gandhi have really worked for Dalits....Congress has always been protecting the right of Dalits and its increasing base among them again due to activeness of Rahul Gandhi has started giving sleepless nights to Mayawati", said Cong leader and Union Minister of State for Home Affairs. "Mayawati is afraid of Rahul Gandhi and this is the reason she is making baseless allegations against him", he added while speaking to a public rally. --MP
Tight security ahead of Kanpur Test

Tight security has been made prior to the third and final Test match between India and South Africa in Kanpur of Uttar Pradesh.
"We have made elaborate security arrangements for the Test match starting April 11. Close circuit televisions have been installed at all sensitive points at the stadium. As a security measure people will not be allowed to take water bottles and mobile phones inside the stadium," said a senior UP police official. The UP police also denied of any terror threats to the teams for the match. The two teams have reached Kanpur Tuesday and are camping at Landmark hotel where security has been beefed up. --MP
SC gives nod for work on Ambedkar statue
The Supreme Court has given nod to Uttar Pradesh government to go ahead with the rennovation of the Ambedkar statue in the existing 35 acre park named after Bhimrao Ambedkar in Lucknow.
The court at the same time directed the government not to built any permanant structure in the park other than the ones existing there. This comes after the State govt appealing to the apex coourt challenging the Allahabad High Court order that stopped the govt from proceeding with the work in the park following an alleged petition against the govt. -MP
Infant born with 2 faces

A girl child was born with two faces, two noses, two mouths and four eyes in a UP village. The girl who was born at Dadri's Saifi Hospital is now over 24 days old and is doing fine. The parents of the child who are factory workers however do not intend to do any surgery on the child.
Some see the unusal baby as an incarnation of God and villagers from the premises are thronging to ee the baby with the unique face. --MP
BKU leader Tikait surrenders

Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Mahendra Singh Tikait was arrested for his alleged remarks against the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister.
The chief magistrate on Monday had issued an arrest warrant against Tikait for his alleged remarks against Mayawati at a public meeting in Bijnor on March 30. Following the case against him, Tikait has surrendered before a court and later on arrested by police. The 73 year old farmer's leader had applied for a bail.
There were speculations of a forced arrest over the past days and hence the leader had decided to surrender on his own after long discussions with the district authorities. --MP
My remarks a mistake: Tikait
BKU leader Mahendra Singh Tikait has apologised for his alleged controversial remarks against UP chief MInister Mayawati in a public meeting on Monday. The remarks against the CM for which he himself apologised has ignitied the district administration to take action against the leader. "I consider this a mistake... It is human to commit a mistake," Tikait told while talking to reporters at Muzaffarnagar. He added that he would withdraw the comments and didnt want any violence and said that he would surrender before the court. --MP
