Stamp duty on property deal reduced

UP government has reduced the stamp duty on property registrations.

The new stamp duty stands at 5% for men which was eariler at 8% and 4% for women instead of the previous 6%.

The new proposed rates has come into immedite effect and will be enforced for 5 months. After this the rates will be reviewed based on the impact of the revised rates on the revenue collections.

Cong may ally with SP

With BSP pulling out its support, Congress is faced with a situation where it is ready to join hands with Samajwad Party.

Sources indicate that Congress is likely to agree on an alliance with SP following the BSP's withdrawal of support to the Cong led UPA government.

The two parties exploring on options could lead to some seat sharing  in UP ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha election campaign.

The Congress move to partner with SP would remain critical as SP's 39 members would mean impressive to the UPA. The decision on this regard will be taken after discussions between the Congress high command and SP chief Mulaya Singh Yadav.

BSP pull out from UPA

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati's BSP which extended outside support to the UPA government has withdrawn support to the Center.

The BSP chief stated the spiralling price rise along with the step motherly treatment towards the State as the reasons for its decision on withdrawal of support.

Now with UPA allying on Left parties who also having political differences over Nuke deal, the BSP move could leave UPA with limited options.

SC hearing on Sahara Shahar next week

The Uttar pradesh government has moved the Supreme Court questioning the High Court directive stopping it from carrying out any further demolition of the Sahara group's Sahara Shahr housing complex in Lucknow.

The State government has started an operation on Wednesday demolishing a part of the construction saying its unauthorised. A Division However a High Court bench on Thursday directed the government not to carry out the demolition.

The UP government's petition challenging the HC order will be heared by the Supreme Court next week.

UP warned of flood threats

Following continous rains which has risen the water levels in the rivers, many of the districts in Uttar Pradesh has been warned of floods.

Government on Wednesday has issued a flood alert in over thirty districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Lakhimpur Kheri, Faizabad, Gonda and Bahraich.

The water level in the state's various rivers, like Ghagra, Sharda, Saryu and Gomti, has gone up significantly over this week's heavy rains.

Talwar's compounder held

Dr Talwar's compounder, Krishna has been held in connection with the twin murders of Arushi and Talwar's domestic help case. The CBI who is enquiring on the sensational case has arrested him and kept under their custody for further questioning.

CBI indicatd that the arrest was based on the various tests including polygraph and narco analysis tests conducted on Krishna.  Arushi's father who is also in jail had undergone a psychological test as a part of the investigations.

The 14 year old Aarushi Talwar and the Talwars' help Hemraj were murdered in Noida in May.

Dalits: UP has the worst track record

A three member team from the National Commission for Scheduled Castes has indicated that Uttar Pradesh has the worst track record while dealing with Dalits.

The panel headed by Buta Singh observed that the Satte administration had failed to control the atrocities against the weaker section, Dalits. The team pinpointed a recent case of attack against Dalits at village of Kanti.

"Uttar Pradesh is right at the top. The latest data available with us is for 2006 when the state recorded 52,827 cases of cruelty to Dalits." informed Singh.

Minister booked for murder

UP Minister of State for Fisheries was dropped from the Mayawati govt
after charges against him in connection with the of murder of a police
constable in Maharajganj district on Sunday.

The Minister was booked as the police official was killed during a
violent protest by his supporters.

Chief minister Mayawati immedietly announced the sacking of the
minister and also ordered an inquiry into the incident which led to
the killing of the police man.

CM demands rollback on fuel hike

Uttar Pradeesh Chief Minister and BSP chief Mayawati has warned petroleum products or else face the consequences.

 "If the UPA government does not withdraw the increase in prices of petrol, diesel and cooking gas, our party will go ahead with the country-wide protest movement against it. This is a warning to the UPA government, if it does not heed it, our party's next move will be to withdraw the support to the Congress-led coalition government at the Centre" , said Mayawati.

Reacting to the PM's appeal to the States on cut of sales tax, she said that salex tax cut was not a permanent solution.

Talwar undergoes lie detector test

Dr Talwar accused in connection with the Noida double murders has undergone a lie detector test by the CBI who is investigating the case.

The polygraph test for Talwar was conducted on his permission.

The CBI is working on 10 seperate teams to probe on the killings. CBI has also collected blood samples from the scene of the crime and is reviewing with the forensic experts for further evidence on the case.

Arushi case goes to CBI

CBI has finally taken over the investigation of the sensational twin murders that rocked Noida. CBI on Sunday has started enquiry on the killings of the teenage girl Arushi Talwar and Talwar's domestic help Hemraj.

The case which was investigated by the Noida police drew severe criticisms from many which was why it was transferred to CBI.

The CBI team comprising of 25 members has visited the crime scenes and probed the family members on the incident.
