Cong join hands with SP in UP

The Congress party has hinted of joining hands with Samajwadi Party in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Its learnt that the two parties have come in terms on an 'unanimous' alliance to fight the next elections in the country's largest State. The Uttar Pradesh Coordination Committee had met on Thursday which was attended by Cong leaders including Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi and Digvijay Singh.
The two party leaders would be sitting together later this month to discuss on strategies and seat sharing policies for the polls. --MP

Leaders of various political parties like CPI(M) and TDP has met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and BSP supremo Mayawati for discussions over the formation of a Third Front alternative.
On Sunday CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat , TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu and Mayawati held seperate discussions with the BSP leader. They discussed on strategies and policies over the evolving political scenerio and expressed confidence of the emergence of a Third Front to fight against BJP, Congress and allies for the upcoming LS polls. --MP

Heavy mansoon rains are throwing life out of gear in the northern State of Uttar Pradesh. Atleast over 70 people have been killed in the incessent rains that has been flooding many parts of UP.
The pilgrim city of Varanasi reported 11.5 inches rain fall in the last 24 hours. Many people were stranded in the floods, and many rivers are overflowing leading to more floods and land slides. Meterological department has warned of more rains over the coming days. --MP

Uttar Pradesh too is following the suit of other States in implementing the Pay Panel report. Welcoming the Union Cabinet move on this regard, Chief minister Mayawati has said that the State would follow the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations. She also said that this will come into effect from Dec 1st onwards this year but the arrears will be paid from Jan 1st 2006 onwards to the employees.
With this in place, the State govt will be put with an additional burden of Rs 5189 crore and an extra Rs 14775 crore for the arrears payment. --MP

With preparations on for the Lok Sabha polls, the UP Chief Minister is projecting herself as the candidate for the post of Prime Minister of the country.
Making her point clear she asked:" If a Dalit ki beti can become the Chief Minister of India's largest and most populous State, why not the same for the post of Prime Minister?" Launching her party's campaign ahead of the upcoming polls, the BSP chief indicated that her party would contest in all of the 80 LS seats in the Uttar Pradesh. --MP
Fake currency making rounds in UP

Fake currencies are making rounds in Uttar pradesh with fake notes worth Rs 20 lakh seized from a major bank of Siddharth nagar district in Uttar Pradesh.
Lately police has claimed of a money racket being involved with fake currency doing rounds in various parts of the State particulary in the border regions of Nepal. Based on this, an investigation team by the Uttar Police Special Task Force has conducted raids in bank branches which has brought out the fake money scam to light. --MP

In a fierce battle between dacoit and the UP police, notorious bandit Ambika Prasad Patel alias Thokia was shot dead early on Monday.
The Special Task Force (STF) of the Uttar Pradesh police had spearheaded the operation against the dacoits who had killed the most dreaded bandit who is involved with many a criminal cases. Also one among the most wanted criminal of the country, the UP government had even announced a reward of Rs.500,000 for his head. --MP

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati is one among the prominent figures who has made it to the top tax payers list this year.
Maya who has paid Rs 26 crore as income tax has been listed at No 20 in the top taxpayers list as per the Income Tax department. Mayawati is the only politician who has made it to the top 20 list among the tax payers of the country. Her income mostly termed as 'gifts' is estimated at Rs 75-80 crore. --MP
