UP Muslims stage protest in Delhi

Triggered by the killings of 3 young Muslims by the Delhi police firings, a group of Muslim men from Azamgarh in UP has taken their
protest to the national capital.

The 3 men from Azamgarh were accused for charges of terrorism and were killed near Batla House during a
police shootout last year. The protestors boarded a train  to Delhi to stage their protestwhich included thousands of men including family
members of the victims.

Major win for BSP at Legislative council

It has been a major win for the BSP which has won seven of the 12 seats  Uttar Pradesh legislative council where elections were conducted on Thursday.

While it turned out a major upset for Congress which could not gain any seat, sthe Samajwadi party won 2 seats and BJP bagged 3. The poll outcome was largely influenced by cross voting which favored the BSP.

Kalyan Singh quits BJP

BJP's rebel leader from UP, Kalyan Singh has stepped down from BJP what is seen as a move to join with Samajwadi party for the upcoming elections. This is the second time Singh is quitting BJP.

The leader expressed his decision to quit from Lucknow and said that he was extremely pained by the way in which BJP ignored him and hence was quitting from all party posts.

Ahead of the LS polls,  BJP leader Kalyan Singh's ties with BJP seems to be loosning out with the leader inclining towards Samajwadi party. Singh is learnt to have met SP leader Mulayam Singh and had long talks.

However BJP has downplayed the incident and is not in a hurry to take any action against its rebel leader. Meanwhile SP has also indicated its readiness to offer seats for Kalyan and son if he wishes to contest under SP's ticket.

UP tops in maternal death rates

The UN body,  Unicef has reported Uttar Pradesh with the highest maternal death rates in the country.

According to the report, UP has a probability of 1 in 42 women with cases of maternal deaths relating to complications in pregnancy and child birth. This is only one in 500 cases in Kerala which accounts the least of maternal deaths.

Neo natal deaths are also highly pervalent in Uttar Pradesh where atleast 46 children die per 1,000 live births.

Sis not happy with Sanju joining SP

Sanjay Dutt may be SP's candidate for the coming elections, however sister and Congress MP Priya Dutt is not so happy with the political developments happening in UP.

Though Priya respects her brother's decision to contest, she thinks Sanjay's choice to associate with Samajwadi party is not appropriate as she felt that her family has always stood by the Congress. "I wish he had fought for the Congress party,"said Priya expressing her disappointment.

Mayawati drops bday plans

On the backdrop of the deadly incidents that took place over collection of birthday funds for the Chief Minister, Mayawati herself has decided to drop the plans for her birthday celebrations.

Atleast the celebration would be a low key affair this time around who has instead decided to switch funds to some welfare schemes..

This comes in the wake of the alleged killing of the PWD Engineer last December, who was stabbed to death on refusal of donation towards the CM's birthday celebrations which was severly criticised by opposition parties.

SP comes with third list

Even as the SP-Congress alliance seem to toughen over time, the Samajwadi Party has gone its way ahead on Monday to release the third list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

With the third list out, the SP has indicated that it would want to contest 51 of the total 80 LS seats.

However the move has certainly created some distress among the Congress which is now choking out alternate strategies.

SP-Cong yet to decide on seat sharing

Even though the alliance between the Congress and SP are yet not confirmed on the seat sharing, SP has already announced come up with its second list of candidates for the upcoming LS polls.

Out of the total 80 seats SP has so far announced candidates for 46 seats. Samajwadi Party accusing Congress for not reaching on a consensus on the seat sharing also maintained that it was exploring on options to work with Cong and pointed out that SP has fielded candidates only for those seats which Congress had not asked from them.

Manoj Tiwari, Sanjay Dutt in SP list

Either with the support of Congress or not, Samajwadi party is all set for the upcoming LS elections in UP where it has shortlisted its
candidates for the contest.

 Among them include Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt whose nomination has led to controversy in view with his tainted background in connection with the Arms Act case. Meanwhile SP leader has said that it would field Sanjay's wife Manyata if the actor face trouble in contesting. The other popular film personality is Bhojpuri's renowned actor Manoj Tiwari who has been nominated from Gorakhpur constituency.

UP to take on Mumbai in Ranji final

The mood among the UP team is certainly high after they had clinched their way into the finals of the renowned Ranji Trophy  tournament. Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association has already honored the players  Shivakant Shukla and Parminder Singh for their top performance in the semifinal match against Tamil Nadu.

However the final is going to be a tough game when they clash against the mighty Mumbai team on January 12 in Hyderabad as Mumbai are already 37 time Ranji Trophy champions. This is the fifth time UP is coming in finals in the Ranji tourney.

UP reels under bitter cold

Intense cold wave  persists in the  northern state of Uttar Pradesh where at least 50 people have died due to this over the past one week.

Death cases were reported in Gorakhpur, Lucknow, Mahoba, Santkabirnagar and Barabanki districts. Severe winds are adding to the cold and temperature were down below 4degrees in Agra.

Air,Rail and road traffic also were disrupted due to thick fogs over these days.

The cold weather is stated to continue for another few weeks, says the Met Dept.
