Lord Rama epic getting familiarisedSunday, December 18, 2005 | AYThe Uttar Pradesh government is planning to start a repertory for the Ramayana in Ayodhya. This facility would provide training in the presentation of the epic in its various forms. Expert artistes from within and outside the country would come and train budding talents, ultimately spreading the story of Lord Ram. The tourism department has started a cultural centre in Ayodhya, where a show on the Ramayana is performed everyday. Raja Bhaiya granted bailFriday, December 16, 2005 | AYThe Madhya Pradesh High Court granted bail for former UP minister Raghuraj Pratap Singh, alias Raja Bhaiya, barely four days before recording of evidence in a case in which he is facing Pota charges in a designated court. The division bench comprising Justices Dipak Mishra and Jitendra Maheshwari also set aside the designated Pota court's order rejecting his bail application. The bail, however, came with a rider that Raja Bhaiya would not influence witnesses and tamper with the evidence in the case. He was also directed to furnish a bond of Rs 10 lakh and two sureties of equal amount. Besides, the court restrained him from visiting his home district, Pratapgarh in Uttar Pradesh, except for appearing in court cases pending against him. He was also directed to surrender his passport and appear at the civil lines police station in Jabalpur on the last Sunday of every month between 2 and 4 pm. Distinguished Urdu critic, poet, and scholar Mr.Shamsur Rahman Faruqi is the author of numerous books and articles. BSP leader in the Vidhan Sabha Swami Prasad Maurya described this not only as a disrespect of a senior artist but also misuse of public money. A well equipped eye care hospital opens in AmethiTuesday, December 6, 2005 | AYUPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, inaugurated a hi-tech eye hospital, called Indira Gandhi Eye Hospital and Research Centre, in her son Rahul Gandhi's constituency. The well-equipped 70-bed hospital at Munshiganj has been established with the help of Arvind Eye Care of Madurai and has been named after former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and Rahul's grandmother. Located within the premises of the Sanjay Gandhi hospital, the eye hospital would treat nearly 40,000 outpatients and 4,000 inpatients in the first year. The hospital has set a target to hold 100 eye screening camps annually and carry out 10,000 surgeries per year. The staff of the hospital has largely been recruited in Uttar Pradesh and trained at Arvind Eye Hospital in Madurai. The hospital has a staff strength of 47, including 5 opthamologists, 32 paramedics, 4 administrative staff and six support staff. Sports college for women to be set up says CMMonday, December 5, 2005 | AAEtawah: A separate sports college for women would be set up in Uttar Pradesh and arrangements would be made to provide proper training and diet allowance to the sportspersons, Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav said today. "Women should come forward and participate in sports at the national and international level and earn name for the country and the state," he said at a function to mark the conclusion of the 31st women's sports at Chandagiram Sports Stadium here. Bypolls held on Dec 2Sunday, December 4, 2005 | AYAn estimated 42 to 45 per cent voters exercised their franchise in two assembly seats of Aurai in Bhadohi and Nangal in Saharanpur districts of Uttar Pradesh where bypolls were held on friday. The state government had deployed central forces in all polling booths to maintain law and order and ensure free and fair polls. In view of unrest in eastern Uttar Pradesh following the murder of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai, security had been tightened in Aurai assembly seat in Sant Ravidas Nagar district and Nagal (reserved) seat in the Saharanpur district. Altogether, fate of 24 candidates, 15 in Aurai and 9 in Nagal, would be decided in the by-election where 6.11 lakh voters would exercise their franchise in 556 polling booths. The Aurai seat fell vacant after Samajwadi Party member Uday Bhan Singh's membership was cancelled following his conviction in a triple murder case. With the academic year lost, the education fee of that session is also wasted, added Yadav, who was present at the third convocation ceremony of the Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU), held at the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET). He also added that degrees acquired by the students will be of no importance if they cannot serve the society. He advised the students to read latest journals and publication for making them aware about the latest technology.
