Lucknow, Jan 2(ANI): Son of late former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar, Neeraj Shekhar has won the prestigious Ballia Lok Sabha seat on a Samajwadi Party ticket.

The Parliamentary constituency had fallen vacant after Chandra Shekhar's demise on July 8, 2007. He was suffering from multiple myeloma, a form of cancer of the plasma cell.

Neeraj Shekhar defeated Bahujan Samaj Party's (BSP's) Vinay Shankar Tewari by over 1,30,000 votes. He got 2,95,000 votes in his favour, while the BJP's Virendra Singh and Congress' Rajiv Upadhya lost their deposits.

Both polled over 22,000 and over 10,000 votes respectively.

The polling was held in the constituency on December 29, 2007. (ANI)

MP: The Uttar Pradesh Government under Maayawati has introduced the Uttar Pradesh Control of Organised Crime Act (UPCOCA) to keep check on organised crimes in the State. The bill was passed in the State Assembly and includes provision for punishments on offences including terrorist activities, kidnapping for ransom, trying to obtain government tenders by force, contract killings, occupying vacant government and private land through forged documents, spurious drugs, indulging in money laundering and human trafficking. The bill also allows the state government to form special courts in consultation with the high court for trying offence.

Lucknow, Oct 22 (ANI): The Uttar Pradesh Government today transferred ten Indian Administrative Service officers. After the transfer, the Principal Secretary (Technical Education), Sankar Agarwal, and Principal Secretary (Housing and Urban Planning Department), Mohinder Singh, have swapped places.The Managing Director (MD) of the UP State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC), Sudhir Mahadev Bobade, has been made MD of the UP State Industrial Development Corporation (UPSIDC).He replaces Rajiv Kapoor, who will now be the MD of the UP Power Corporation. The incumbent MD of the UP Power Corporation, Avnish Kumar Awasthi, has been shifted to State Irrigation Department as Secretary. Current, Irrigation Secretary Shambhu Nath Shukla will be MD of UPSRTC and CEO, Noida Balwainder Kumar has been made Principal Secretary (Social Welfare). Principal Secretary of Social Welfare Ram Kumar has been shifted to Rural Engineering Services Department. Commissioner Food and Civil Supplies K S Ataoria and Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) Vice Chairman Harbhajan Singh have exchanged places. (ANI)
